Maserati GranTurismo MC
The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is a car of firsts. It is inspired by the podium-topping performance of the GranTurismo MC Trofeo motorsport programmes. It is the first road-going Maserati to have a dedicated Race mode to add to its upgraded Automatic and Sport modes. It is the first to boast light and powerful carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes and the first to top 300km/h. It is the first to use advanced electronics to slash gear-shift times to just 60 milliseconds and the first to offer sequential down-shifting. Put simply, it is the first street legal Maserati race car. The MC Stradale is based on the Trofeo GranTurismo MC and the acclaimed GT4. It fuses the original grand touring concept of the GranTurismo with Maserati Corse race technology to create a pinnacle Gran Turismo - a track day hero and a road-going thoroughbred. The MC Stradales race-bred heritage is highlighted by a 110kg weight reduction from the GranTurismo S, down to 1,770kg. The car retains the optimal 48:52 weight distribution to ensure optimum handling. It produces more aerodynamic downforce without generating more aerodynamic drag. The 330 kW 4.7-litre V8 engine delivers more power without using more fuel and the new suspension and bespoke Pirelli tyres mean the car is more agile, without sacrificing the GranTurismo Ss highly praised ride quality. To emphasize the harder-edged nature of the GranTurismo MC Stradale, the two rear seats have been removed and there is an optional roll cage and a four-point racing harness, instead of the usual seat belt. But the MC Stradale is not just a racing hero. It is a Maserati. As Nunzia Fusco, the cars chief designer, puts it: It pushes the limits of aggressive performance and looks but is still true to its Maserati heritage: the ultimate Grand Tourer. Switch off Sport or Race Mode and the exhaust bypass flap close, the gearshift settings shift to the softest - 240 milliseconds per change - and the Maserati Stability Program intervenes early and gently. The ride is as smooth as the Alcantara lining of the interior. While the rear seats have been removed, Maseratis traditional style and comfort have not. The rear sill is trimmed in thick carpet, with the Maserati Trident stitched in the centre. Race-inspired luxurious options include carbon-fibre interior trimming and a carbon-fibre gearshift paddle set. The GranTurismo MC Stradale is latest step in the well-driven path between Maseratis racing programs and its production road cars and, often, back again. In the 1990s, the Ghibli Cup road car became the Ghibli Open Cup race car and a decade later the Maserati Trofeo gave birth to the GranSport MC Victory. At the pinnacle of Maseratis road-to-race story, the FIA GT-winning MC12 was developed directly from the MC12 Stradale. The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale completes the GranTurismo range as the most powerful and performance model. It will go on sale early next year.
